Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you book.

Your tent

What’s in the tent?

Quite a lot is waiting for you. A wood fire is the main heat source, with firewood, firelighters and matches all supplied, and the fire set and waiting to be lit when you arrive. Plus a gas heater to take the chill off in the morning and electric blankets for warmth. You’ll find quality linen and towels; a two-burner gas cooker with cookware, crockery and cutlery; and a basic pantry to start you off. The ensuite bathroom has robes, slippers and toiletries, a flushing toilet, and a rainhead plus handheld shower. Unwind on the leather sofa and dine at the convertible dining table. Is there wifi?

Yes, every tent has free Starlink wifi. Simply scan the QR code inside your tent to connect.

How are the tents powered?

Each tent runs on its own solar power, quietly off-grid, with all the comfort of home day and night. You won’t notice the difference, only the quiet.

Is there parking at the tent?

Yes, there’s dedicated parking right beside each tent, so you can unload and settle straight in. Note the tents are elevated and reached by a few steps.

Comfort & climate

What’s the weather like?

We’re at around 1000 m elevation, so it can be up to 10°C cooler than Sydney. Bring a few warm layers whatever the season, then make the most of the valley with our Things to Do.

Is it comfortable in summer?

Very comfortably. Each tent has fly-screen windows, ceiling fans and a triple-layer roof that keeps the space cool and airy through the warmer months.

Is it warm in winter?

Beautifully snug. The wood fire is the main heat source, with a gas heater and electric blankets on every bed, so winter here is one of our favourite times to stay.

Is it safe in bad weather?

Very safe. The tents are reinforced to withstand cyclonic winds and are fully watertight, so you can settle in and enjoy the sound of the rain.

Policies

Can we bring children?

Akuna Estate is an adults-only retreat, so we don’t accommodate children. It’s how we keep every stay calm and unhurried.

Can we bring pets?

No pets, sorry, it’s how we protect the native wildlife that makes this corner of the valley so special.

Practicalities

Is firewood provided?

Always. Firewood is supplied free of charge and your fire comes pre-set, ready to light the moment you arrive.

Can we book multiple tents or come as a group?

Yes, small groups are welcome. You’re welcome to book more than one tent, up to the per-tent maximum. Planning an intimate wedding or celebration? See our Weddings page. For group enquiries, just get in touch and we’ll help you plan it.
